Title: Winter Eve
Series: Ashwood Falls, Prequel
Author: Lia Davis
Genre: Paranormal romance
Publisher: Fated Desires Publishing
Length: 14,000 Words
Danica Welsh was born to be the leopard pack healer. An accident involving a drug induced youth left her badly burned and scared—emotionally and physically. Without the ability to heal by touch, she secludes herself to the edge of town, away from Ashwood Falls’ overly concerned citizens. All hope of mating and family become a distance dream. When she finally starts to accepts the long, lonely existence ahead of her, a stranger crashes into her life, and her heart.
After Nevan Mathews’ fiancée died three ago, he submerged himself into his work, cutting off all reminders of a life he dreamed of with the woman he loved. He lets his step-mother talk him into taking the first vacation in five years to visit for the holidays. But an accident delays his travel plans, sending him to Danica’s doorstep and raises a need he thought he would never feel again.
Can they tear down the walls around their hearts and submit to the passion before another claims Dani for his own?
Warning: Contains a shifter who’s scars run deeper than skin, a human who has the heart of a shifter, and a snow storm that’s sure to have them both reaching for warmth.
I don’t read much paranormal anything, but I’m going beyond the usual werewolves, vampires and witches, and can get into the story. I do love aliens, so I have a starting base. Danica’s a shifter, but a leopard. Nevan’s brothers are wolves, but he cannot transform. I was hoping he was a late bloomer, and learned how at the end… but I was wrong on that score. Danica’s not wanting another changling and sees Nevan as her mate fast.
Either way, I’m glad I read it and finished the whole thing. There were a few places I could critique for the story, as one minute Danica and Nevan are talking to the alpha leopard who wants her hand in marriage then the next second they are sexxing it up. I had no idea what happened to the guy at the door, but that’s so minor. And the sex was hot. I dig the dog and cat aspect of these two, though they stay in human form throughout the fun romp.
Overall, this story was good, and I’d love to read more. I’d like a sequel where Nevan gets the powers of the werewolf now that he’s mated with a cat. Talk about the potential for opposites. Generally a fun read, and I’d recommend this to anyone.
